This is the flight sim game!
Have you ever dreamed of flying around the world in a realistic airplane, but without the hassle of airport security, jet lag, or turbulence? If so, then Microsoft Flight Simulator is the game for you. This game lets you take off and land at any of the 37,000+ airports on Earth, with stunning graphics and accurate physics that make you feel like you're really in the cockpit. You can choose from 20 different planes, ranging from small propellers to huge jets, and customize your flight plan to suit your mood. Whether you want to soar over the Himalayas, buzz the Eiffel Tower, or visit your grandma's house, Microsoft Flight Simulator has it all.
But be warned: this game is not for the faint of heart. It requires a lot of patience, skill, and attention to detail to master the complex controls and systems of each aircraft. You'll have to deal with weather conditions, air traffic control, fuel management, navigation instruments, and more. And don't even get me started on the landing challenges. Some of them are so hard that they make Dark Souls look like a walk in the park. You'll need nerves of steel and reflexes of a cat to land safely on some of these runways.
Microsoft Flight Simulator is also a very demanding game in terms of hardware. It runs smoothly on Xbox Series X and Series S thanks to some clever optimization by Asobo Studio (the developers), but it still takes up a whopping 100 GB of storage space on your console. That's enough to fit 20 copies of Halo Infinite (if it ever comes out). And if you want to enjoy the full beauty of this game's visuals (and trust me, you do), you'll need a fast internet connection too. The game streams data from Bing Maps in real-time to create its stunning scenery (yes Bing Maps - apparently Google Maps was too busy being useful for other things). If your internet is slow or unreliable (like mine), you might end up seeing some blurry textures or weird glitches instead.
But despite these minor flaws (and they are minor compared to how amazing this game is), Microsoft Flight Simulator is one of the best games I've ever played. It's not just a game; it's an experience. It's a way to explore our beautiful planet from a perspective that few people ever get to see. It's a way to learn about aviation history and culture from around the world. It's a way to relax and have fun with friends online (or make new ones). And most importantly: it's a way to fulfill your childhood dream of becoming a pilot.
So what are you waiting for? Grab your controller (or better yet: buy yourself an expensive flight stick) and get ready for takeoff. Microsoft Flight Simulator is available now on Xbox Game Pass (which is another reason why you should subscribe if you haven't already). Trust me: this is one flight you don't want to miss.
